Internship structure and requirements for B.Ed. students
Field Experience
Internship Programme
The B.Ed. internship at DUC is a sustained, school-embedded experience that bridges theory and practice. Conducted across two semesters, it places students in real classrooms where they develop the full range of professional teaching competencies under guided supervision.
Partner Schools
DUC has established partnerships with government and aided schools in the Darjeeling district. Partner schools are selected for their commitment to teacher education and the quality of their mentoring environment.
Duration and Credits
School Internship I (Semester II) carries 4 credits and runs for approximately 4 weeks. School Internship II (Semester III) carries 8 credits and runs for approximately 16 weeks. Together they constitute the largest credit-bearing component of the programme.
Community Engagement
During Internship II, students participate in community engagement activities — interacting with parents, attending school events, and contributing to school development activities. This develops an understanding of the school as a social institution.
Assessment
Internship assessment is continuous and includes lesson observation grades, reflective journal entries, lesson plan portfolios, community engagement reports, and a final viva conducted by DUC faculty. All components must be satisfactorily completed to pass the internship.
